Amazon.com Product Description
It's no longer enough to train hard; you also have to train smart if you want an edge. Enter the Timex Ironman Race Trainer digital heart rate monitor watch, which gives elite athletes the performance tools they need to succeed. The Race Trainer's primary function is to monitor your average heart rate and tell you whether to boost your intensity or take it slower. However, the watch also offers several more sophisticated tools, including a 10-workout memory, a 50-lap chronograph that calculates your average heart rate per lap, and five interval timers with individual heart rate target zones. The tools combine to make serious training seriously easy. And thanks to the Race Trainer's wireless Data Xchanger USB, you can customize your HRM and watch settings, upload workouts directly to your PC, or use training and nutrition software powered by TrainingPeaks.

5 out of 5 stars simple but useful...   January 28, 2010

Just got my 2nd Timex heart rate monitor. I decided to by this latest model since I was really satisfied with the old one. With the new design of the wrist strap, I hope it will last since the old one was not that robust (became brittle after 2 years). By the way, to those who plan to buy this product with the intent to download performance data to the computer, make sure that the product title includes "WITH DATA XCHANGER" or see if the model# is T5K263 not T5K217.... you don't want to commit the same mistake I did.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent tool   December 12, 2009

I purchased this heart rate monitor to offer more metric points than my Sigma PC15 offered. Most importantly this monitor is capable of tracking the average heart rate over a given interval. I use it to monitor my speed work and interval training and to track my recovery times to give me a heads up of any potential over training.

The quality of this product is excellent and I would recommend anyone who wants a serious non-GPS heart rate monitor to purchase one. I use it in areas that my old HRM would lose signal due to interference without a single glitch yet.

This watch does everything I was looking for in a watch. The numbers and buttons are all large enough to operate with ease and the lap feature works properly (seems basic, but I've had two watches without) . The heart rate monitor is comfortable to wear and syncs well. I was skeptical of that but it works perfectly. You don't get that feeling that its slipping while you're running at all and it keeps an accurate running tally of your pulse and then you can save the chrono time when you get back and recall data, including your max and average heart rate. Whether you're an avid runner or a gizmo geek, that's a neat feature. I'm not sure which category I fall under but I dread the run and love reviewing the stats when I'm done, so I guess that's leaning toward geekdome for me. It's a good watch, I love it!

Far better value than Polar's, the strap monitor is comfortable and the watch itself looks nice, very accurate readings also. The watch has a lot of features that I do not use, but it's nice to have them if later on you want to use them.
Definitively recommended.

This is a great Heart Rate Monitor that does everything you need - at a better price than the competition. I've been using this 4-5 times a week for the last month on my runs/bikes and have had no issues with interference or errant heart rate displays. It is also very easy to use - If you've ever had a Timex, you can work this with little to no instructions, however, to use the advanced features, you will have to read the manual. My favorite feature is the workout review, where you can see total time, minutes in zone, average heart rate, min/max heart rate, calories burned, and heart rate recovery, most of which are split into total and lap/interval levels for a more granular review. I'm extremely happy that I saved a couple hundred dollars and purchased this over a new Polar or Suunto Heart Rate Monitor - same features and a replaceable battery on the chest strap - what a great product!
